Reports to: Organizational Development, Assistant Director

Location: 305 Seventh Avenue, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10001

Hours: 21 Hrs/Wk (3 days a week)

Salary: $0 (this is an unpaid internship)

Job Responsibilities

  • Support or co-facilitate workshops, courageous conversations, and dialogues across difference

  • Research best practices around belonging and fairness for all people, learns about monthly awareness days and helps to draft agency-wide communications

  • Provide consultation to individuals and groups regarding cross-cultural interactions and conflicts

  • Provide support to employee resource groups; coordinate quarterly meetings with employee resource groups to ensure they align with the organization’s mission

  • Develops and regularly updates guides, toolkits, and resources for the agency

  • Co-creates an e-newsletter and regular agency updates

  • Supports with the development, coordination, and execution of theme-month informational materials, celebrations and events (i.e. National Black History Month)

  • Provides support in the form of healing circles to staff members working with members of the mental health team

  • Other related tasks as needed

  • Analyze agency policies and procedures to identify opportunities for equitable outcomes

  • Promote belonging and fair leadership practices at all levels of the organization

  • Curate resources that build understanding of different people

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master's of Social Work Degree Program

  • Ability to work from the Good Shepherd Services 7th Avenue Office required

  • Dedicated to all the NASW Social Work Ethics

  • Has a deep understanding of power dynamics between different groups of people, institutions

  • Has a deep level of emotional and cultural intelligence

  • Motivated and forward-thinking; dedicated to fairness and belonging of all people

  • Skilled in guiding conversations on topics related to valuing differences and creating welcoming environments

  • Innovative, courageous, and prepared to challenge ingrained patterns of unfairness; confident in promoting practices that foster belonging.

  • Applies an understanding of how different aspects of identity connect and overlap

  • Dedicated to ongoing education and expanding knowledge to address unfairness; acknowledges that fostering belonging is a continuous journey

  • Focused on continuous learning and development to better understand and address patterns of exclusion

  • Builds strong relationships and collaborates effectively with people from varied backgrounds

  • Actively engaged in continuing education and professional development related to valuing differences and creating welcoming environments
