The Advocate Counselor provides individual, family and group counseling, case management, advocacy, referrals and crisis intervention, as well as post-secondary planning once student reaches graduation requirement. Advocate Counselor will work in collaboration with GSS and DOE by following the policies and procedures implementing by the program, but meeting the mission and vision of GSS agency.

Reports To: Program Director, Stevenson YABC
Location: 1980 Lafayette Ave, Bronx NY 10473
Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt
Schedule: September to June-Monday through Friday 12:30pm to 8:30pm
July to August- Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm
Salary: $44,000 - $50,000
Major Duties:
- Provide case management and wraparound support services for 50 or more overaged and under credit students, to help them alleviate any stressors, so the students can successfully meet graduation requirements.
- Provide individual, family and group counseling.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Provide family outreach and involvement as appropriate.
- Develop and implement strategical and goal planning for student on caseload
- Develop and implement groups/workshops responsive to student needs.
- Assist students in attending school regularly through identifying obstacles and connecting with resources
- Attendance outreach consist of home visits, outreach calls, texting, and mailing, etc.
- Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities.
- Support students with all aspects of post-secondary planning, financial aid, personal essay, and college or vocational training trips.
- Able to work collaboratively with DOE and GSS team members.
- Generate and submit data required for statistical report and ensure that appropriate paperwork and date base entry is completed.
- Perform other duties as assigned and needed to further enhance the performance of the program
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree Required.
- Must have experience working with adolescent/young adults individually and in groups.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English helpful
- Prior experience in a school setting helpful.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
