Title: Social Work Intern - Juvenile Justice NSP (Rose and Blum)
Reports to: Assistant Director of Social Services
Location: 280 Shepherd Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11208 and 480 Vermont Street, Brooklyn NY 11208
Hours: 21 Hours/Week HYBRID
Job Summary: The Social Work Intern works collaboratively with the wider inter-disciplinary team to assess treatment needs of participants, plan and coordinate services and provide short term therapy where indicated. The Social Work Intern is expected to uphold Good Shepherd Services’ Mission and demonstrate “We See What Can Be” in their approach to providing care to participants.
Critical core competencies for successful performance in this role are:
- Some basic knowledge of mental health practices, and their impact on individuals and groups.
- Ability to empathize with participants and staff members, practicing active listening to validate their experiences and emotions.
- Sensitivity, experience and/or knowledge of cultural factors influencing mental health and healing responses and treatment and a commitment to cultural humility.
- Understanding of the importance of self-awareness and self-care to enhance personal and community well-being.
- Willingness to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide support to participants and staff members.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and accurate record keeping practices.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in the field of healing-informed care and mental health.
- Commitment to meeting expectations of the internship.

Qualifications:

Current enrollment in accredited MSW, MFT, or other relevant Masters-lever behavioral health program.

Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational and prioritization skills, along with strong computer skills.
